Nearby AM Stations Report

Feature avaialble for all myLPFM users.

This tool will check to determine if there are any towers for AM broadcast stations within 3 kilometers of the LPFM tower site.

To run this report, you will first need to use either the icon Move LPFM Station or the icon Check for Alternate Channels Search to run a Channel Search and then on the Channel Search result, you follow the process to include facility details. Then on the Channel Search result, click on the link next to Notifications to AM Stations.

The AM Stations Report will look at the overall height of the LPFM tower structure and the heights and distances to the AM towers to determine whether there's a possibility that a proposed tower construction could impact the pattern or other parameters of the AM facility.

The tool will convert the AM frequency into wavelength (300 divided by the frequency in Megahertz, 300/mHz.. for example: 540 kHz is 555.6 meters, 1000 kHz is 300 meters and 1700 kHz is 176.5 meters).

LPFM towers within one wavelength of a nondirectional AM station will need to be further evaluated.

LPFM towers within 10 wavelengths, but never more than 3,000 meters (3 km) of a directional AM station will need to be further evaluated.

If a tower needs to be evaluated, the system looks at the distance between the LPFM and AM towers in electrical degrees in order to determine if notification and possible action by the AM station is required.

If a notification is required, the Tool will indicate that and will give detailed instructions on what to do.
